Dear Human, I Want to Understand You Better

This year, my New Year’s resolution is all about communication. I don’t speak your language, but I’m always trying to understand you — through your tone, your posture, your expressions, and your energy.

Learning isn’t just about commands. For me, it’s about clarity. When I understand what you’re asking, I feel confident. When I’m confused, I may hesitate, freeze, or make mistakes — not because I’m stubborn, but because I don’t know what the right answer is.

Why Clear Communication Matters to Me

Dog communication goes far beyond words. I read your body language before I hear your voice. I notice whether your movements are calm or rushed. I feel when you’re tense or relaxed.

Clear communication helps me:

  • Feel safe trying new things

  • Build confidence through success

  • Reduce frustration and stress

  • Strengthen our bond

When messages change or cues are inconsistent, I’m left guessing — and guessing can make me anxious.

My Resolution to Learn at a Comfortable Pace

I love learning, but I learn best when lessons are:

  • Short

  • Positive

  • Repetitive

  • Clear

Dog training basics work best when we focus on small wins. When you break things into simple steps, I can succeed — and success makes me want to keep trying.

If lessons go on too long or feel confusing, my brain gets tired. That’s when mistakes happen.

My Resolution to Be Understood, Too

This year, my resolution is to express myself clearly — and I hope yours is to listen without rushing or judgment.
